Extremely Rare Frankincense Boswellia aspleniifolia is a currently disputed tree. Some botanists understand the tree to be one of the many climate-dependent variations of Boswellia socotrana/elongata. However, Boswellia aspleniifolia is held by some botonists, to be a distinct species. Some even say it is the black sacra resin of the middle east
The resins do smells a lot like B. sacra but sweeter, carries a higher boswellic acid content, as well dispensing notes of the tropical citrus that typically characterises B. socotrana/elongata. I can verify the smell of the two species are different having burned, handcrafted oil from both and sniffed both resins carefully.
