Many people may not be aware that when creating blends, I utilize three oils that I use as a signature. Unless I am working with a specific Biblical recipe, I typically incorporate one or all of my signature oils into my blends. This practice is common among many formulators as well as some aromatherapists.

Some may have one oil as a signature while others like myself have three. How did I come to my signature oils you might ask? Each one has a special meaning and a healing experience for me.

My first oil is Etrog Citron Fruit. Etrog was the first Citrus oil I distilled which was a memorable moment when I achieved something that many could not do with distillation of this complex fruit. I then used the essential oil and hydrosol and incorporated it into my wedding perfume spray blend in 2002.

I had read that Etrog is a hormone balancer and when eaten it can correct fertility issues according to the Rambam so because I also struggled at the time with hormonal balance and fertility issues I instead of eating the Etrog Fruit after Sukkot I made it into a cream instead and massaged it across my tummy and applied it to my pulse area and wore it as a perfume and needless to say was pregnant with my first child the very next month.

This beautiful Citron is considered a “goodly fruit” according to the Bible/Torah. The etrog, or Citrus Medica in Latin, has incredible healing properties. It is a powerful antioxidant, rich in vitamin C, it encourages collagen growth also. Etrog’s antibacterial properties make it great for treating oily and acne-prone skin and brightens the skin. Etrog oil is wonderful for reducing pigmentation and age spots too in skincare. Perfect for making a lasting signature perfume.

My second oil is Jaffa/Joppa Orange. When I first distilled the whole fruit of this one after cold pressing the peels it was an incredable experience of pure joy! The aroma just said I’m juicy and oh so very good, you know that run down your arm juicy good! Yup, you know what I am talking about! It just made me happy every single time I smell it and it never gets old.

Much like Etrog, Jaffa Orange is a powerful antioxidant, rich in vitamin C, it encourages collagen growth too. Jaffa Orange is unique in its ability for treating oily and acne-prone skin especially stubborn black heads and it too brightens the skin. Jaffa Orange oil is wonderful for reducing pigmentation, decreasing wrinkles, age spots, and is an excellant deoderizer.

My third signature oil is Ylang Ylang. It was the oil that inspired me to move forward when I felt like I could not. It was the oil that helped me personally make the transition from brthing my third child and I was feeling deep baby blues.

Helped me with hormonal balance, including stress relief, mood enhancement, and support for heart health which is what I really needed. It also helps balance oil production in the skin, promotes healing, and has antioxidant properties.

These three oils were and still are the three friends that I visit daily that I even enjoy them blended together with sisters of flowers like Jasmine, Rose or Lavender. These are the three friends I add into all my blends, perfumes, and formulated products as my personal oil signature.
