Birch oil is useful for dermatitis, dull or congested skin, eczema, hair care, and psoriasis, although it could irritate the skin. It is also helpful in cases of poor circulation, the accumulation of toxins in the muscles, for arthritis, rheumatism, muscular pains, edema, and cellulite. A smells similar to wintergreen but a bit sweet with a bit of camphor.
Methyl salicylate is a chemical cousin of aspirin in wintergreen essential oil. Thus, both belong to a category of anti-inflammatory analgesics known as “salicylates.” So it is NOT safe to consume methyl salicylate orally in such concentrated form as essential oil and so because it is more toxic than aspirin it is not recommended for oral use. Keep away from children and never use them on children or while pregnant.
