Royal Balm of Gilead was coveted for its aroma which is a honeyed sweet, musky green notes, with a hint of wood spice that is wonderful in any perfume composition. The aroma and plant of this hydrosol are so full of light and energy from growing in Ertz Yisroel’s soil that it’s a bit like kissing the sun while the moon has her back turned.
The Prophet Ezekiel speaks of its great value. The Book of Exodus cites this plant as an incense ingredient in the Ketoret to be burned in the Holy Temple. The Prophet Jeremiah speaks of the Balm of Gilead’s healing power and its value to the Jewish people.
The plant was a gift from The Queen of Sheba to King Solomon on her many visits to see the great King. Its orchards were owned by King Herod, later looted by Marcus Antonius, and gifted its powerful oil to Cleopatra. Its branches were carried by Titus along with the Golden Menorah in the Roman Empire’s triumphant march to Rome after the conquest of Jerusalem. Yes, today it is said those very branches were rooted and are now growing in Rome at the Vatican gardens.
Today, this plant Balm Of Gilead (Balsamon) which had not been seen for 1,500 years in Israel, now has been reborn at the Balm Of Gilead Farm in Almog, Israel, on the northern coast of the Dead Sea.
The plant material was purchased from the BOG farm and gifted to us from the buyer. We then Artisan Distilled the material at Rimmon Farms with clean fresh clean distilled water to produce not only a small amount of essential oil but this beautiful Hydrosol from the distillation process. We wanted to make our own so we can see the process from start to finish. How rewarding it was. This is the only time we will have this available because the cost is too great to keep producing this hydrosol.
