Lemon balm is abundantly used in traditional medicine to treat insomnia, anxiety, gastric conditions, psychiatric conditions, migraines, hypertension, and bronchial conditions. I share the fact that Melissa Lemon Balm is excellent for pain also the distilled hydrosol is wonderful to relieve pain and relax the body. I have turned so many people onto the benefits of lemon Balm that no matter what form I have it in I cannot keep it in stock. I have turned many friends and clients onto the use of lemon balm in many forms from hydrosol to a macerated oil as well as the distilled essential oil for pain. Its literally the Balm (Bomb)!

Genesis 37:25 *And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Arabians came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balms and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.
There are so many balms cited in the Torah that it is hard to know one from the other. However, we do know that Lemon Balm has a long history, dating back to ancient Israel, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yemen, and Greece where it was planted near beehives to encourage the bees to return home to the hive rather than swarm away.
Its name, Melissa officinalis, is derived from the Greek word Melissa, meaning honeybee, and it was planted and used by the beekeepers of the Holy Temple according to Jewish sources. Today you can find lemon Balm growing all over Israel especially where several beekeepers keep large hives in the Galilee regions. See our Galilee lemon Balm Essential Oil here.
You can also make wonderful Lemon Balm honey by using the fresh herb. Makes sense how these two work so well together. Keeps the seasonal colds and flu away and helps balance digestive issues. I love to make tea and add to salad dressings. I also make lemon Balm cake yummy with fresh herb. What’s your favorite way to use Lemon Balm?
We called this our liquid gold crop. Excellant for difusser, diluted with your favorite carrier oil and apply as a massage for pain. Used in skincare, as well soaps, and deoderants. Perfect use in salve, creams, lotions, and natural perfume accord. There are lots of lemon balm uses. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, lemon balm (or Melissa officinalis L. as it is scientifically known) was steeped in wine to lift the spirits, aid in healing wounds, and help treat venomous insect bites and stings even before the Middle Ages.
However, it should not be consumed even as a tea by pregnant and breastfeeding women. It may also interact with HIV medications, sedatives, and thyroid medications, so it is best to consult your doctor before consuming it the fresh herb or tea, oil, maceration or in any form.
