Without photosynthesis life as we know it would not exist. It’s worth a moment’s reflection and Thank G-d for such energy to sustain life.
There would be no biology without photosynthesis. Plant biomass is the food and fuel for all animals. Plants are the primary producers. These amazing organisms are capable of capturing the energy of sunlight and fixing it in the form of potential chemical energy in organic compounds. The organic compounds are constructed from two principle raw materials; carbon dioxide and water (which is a source of hydrogen). These compounds are stable and can be stored until required for life processes. Hence animals, fungi and non-photosynthetic bacteria depend on these for the maintenance of life.
But how can we measure the rates at which photosynthesis takes place? The quantities are mind boggling. A hectare (e.g. a field 100 m by 100 m) of wheat can convert as much as 10,000 kg of carbon from carbon dioxide into the carbon of sugar in a year, giving a total yield of 25,000 kg of sugar per year. There is a total of 7000 x 109 tonnes of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and photosynthesis fixes 100 x 109 tonnes per year. So 15% of the total carbon dioxide in the atmosphere moves into photosynthetic organisms each year.

How does the effect the vitality and quality of Essential oils? Well everything really! Effect of seasonal sun variation on essential oil yield. Plants take the light of the sun, the minerals of the earth, and the carbon dioxide exhaled by humans and animals and, through photosynthesis, transform them into the building blocks of medicine. Among the most important therapeutic compounds manufactured by plants are essential oils. These volatile oils contain a variety of active constituents and are also responsible for each plant’s unique fragrance. Take not that all of this process starts with the light of the sun.
Fragrance Molecules
The basic elements of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen combine to form the different organic molecular compounds that produce aromas. So far, more than 30,000 of these molecular compounds have been identified and named. Most individual essential oils consist of many different aromatic molecular compounds. In fact, the essential oil from just one plant may contain as many as one hundred different fragrance molecules. In nature there are thousands of plants, all with unique fragrances that are comprised of different combinations of these molecules.
Plants that smell similar to one another usually contain some of the same molecular compounds. Lemon verbena, lemon balm (melissa), lemon thyme, lemon eucalyptus, citronella, lemongrass, and lemon itself, for instance, all smell like lemon because they contain a lemon-scented molecule called citral. But it is the other aromatic molecules they contain that give each plant its unique fragrance.
Aromatic compounds are grouped under larger classes of compounds such as terpenes, phenols, aldehydes, alcohols, ketones, acids, esters, coumarins, and occasionally, oxides. Citral is an aldehyde; eugenol is a phenol. Each molecular compound has characteristic scents and actions on the body. Some may be cooling and relaxing, while others are warming and stimulating. Some are better for treating indigestion, while others are antiseptic.
If a plant gets very little sun the quality and vitality of the essential oil is lowered and the energy status of or frequency is also compromised. Using chemical and pesticides also play a huge role in vitality of the plant directly determines the vitality and quality.
Extracting the Life Force:
We find in a blog by Rabbi Avraham Sand says ” The fragrance of flowers and plants arises from their Essential Oil content. Present as tiny droplets between the plant cells, these aromatic Oils occur mostly in roots, barks, wood, resins, leaves, flowers and the peel of citrus fruits. The extracted Essential Oil is a super-concentrated living expression of the personality and “spirit” of the plants, incorporating both medicinal and aromatic characteristics.
Essential Oils regulate botanical hormone systems. They also protect the plant against climatic change, disease and other imbalances.
Miraculously, the Essential Oils tend to work within our own body in much the same way, balancing and protecting the delicate life support systems.
When properly extracted, the plant’s vital life force can be effectively retained for several years with proper storage. The shelf life of quality Essential Oils, properly bottled and stored, is about 3 to 5 years. Citrus Oils have a shorter shelf life.
During this period the Oils gradually lose their healing potential and fragrance. Proper storage techniques include the use of dark-colored airtight glass bottles, a minimum of air inside the bottle, and a cool surrounding temperature, although refrigeration is usually not necessary.”
Oils Respond to Words, Thoughts and Prayer
Scripture gives us two wonderful descriptions of purifying bitter water, from which we can learn about the healing process in general. The first instance narrates the arrival of the Children of Israel at Mara after three days in the Shur Desert without water:
…but they could not drink any water there because the water was bitter…and the people complained to Moses. “What shall we drink?” they demanded. When [Moses] cried out to G-d, He showed him a certain tree. [Moses] threw [a small branch of] it into the water, and the water became drinkable.
It was there that [G-d] taught them a decree and a law, and there He tested them. He said, “If you obey G-d your L-rd and do what is upright in His eyes, carefully heeding all His Commandments and keeping all His decrees, then I will not strike you with any of the sicknesses that I brought on Egypt. I am the G-d Who heals you. (Ex. 15:23-25)
In his commentary on the Torah, Rabbeinu Bachya quotes the Talmud Sages who say that originally the water had been fresh. It turned bitter (as an additional test in the series of trials in the desert) and then was made sweet again by a bitter branch.
Another example that Rabbeinu Bechayeh gives of water desalination is found when Elisha comes to Jericho after the miracles of Elijah ascending to Heaven and the Jordan River splitting open:
And the men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord may see; but the water is bad, and the ground causes untimely births.”
And [Elisha] said, “Bring me a new flask and put salt in it.”
And they brought it to him. And they went out to the spring of waters, and cast salt in there, and said, “Thus says the L-rd, I have healed this water; there shall not be from there any more death or miscarriages.” So the water was healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha… (II Kings 2:19-22)
Much like water we respond to the thoughts and prayers of others, whether we are aware of it or not, and so do essential oils. In some of Bruce Tainio’s work, essential oils were measured before and after being bombarded with negative thoughts. Their vibrancy went down. When positive thoughts were aimed at the oils, their vibrancy went up and in smell it was stronger more vibrant in smell. When the oils were prayed over, their vibrancy went up and was strong in smell. Oils amplify intent just like water. And intent according science of water will move molecules of oil too, to where they can best serve to heal. This is why prayer and anointing with essential oils works so well when combined.
However a frequency is simply a cycle per second. From quantum mechanics we know that electromagnetic energy is typically measured by looking at the wavelengths of electromagnetic waves used to cause various energy transitions between quantum states. These wavelengths can be translated to frequencies through a simple equation (frequency of the electromagnetic energy is the speed of light divided by the measured wavelength). Molecules emit and absorb energy in various forms resulting from electronic, vibrational and rotational energy level transitions. If your going to talk about vibrational frequencies then its necessary to understand some basic chemistry and quantum mechanics to measure a essential oil frequency.
Vibrational energy in molecules refers to the vibration of bound atoms within a particular molecule. For example, if we look at a very simple molecule like carbon dioxide, we can measure the vibration or frequency of what is referred to the carbonyl stretch (the stretching motion of the double bond between the carbon and the oxygen atoms).
The larger the molecule is the more vibrational motions it will have. Molecules in essential oils would have many different bond vibrations going on because even the smaller molecules (monoterpenes) consist of 10 carbon atoms and 16 hydrogen atoms. Thus all essential oil molecules would have many different vibrations going on simultaneously and each different type of vibrational motion in each different bond would have its own characteristic frequency. These vibrational frequencies in molecules are measured using infrared (IR) spectroscopy because energy in the IR range of the electromagnetic spectrum is what is required to cause these vibrations. The magnitude of Infrared radiation is in the 10,000,000,000,000 to 400,000,000,000,000 Hertz range!
So when Bruce Tainio measure essential oils by hertz he really had no understanding about physics but did understand that the smell was stronger just by the thoughts and intention set forth toward the oils did have a effect on the aroma profile. This is what I deem as the “Garden experience”
Everything vibrates
This Universal Law states that everything in the Universe moves and vibrates – everything is vibrating at one speed or another. Nothing rests. Everything you see around you is vibrating at one frequency or another and so are you. However your frequency is different from other things in the universe – hence it seems like you are separated from what you see around you – people, animals, plants, trees and so on. BUT you are not separated – you are in fact living in an ocean of energy – we all are. We are all connected at the lowest level – a level professor John Hagelin calls the “unified field”. Everything has its own vibrational frequency – the table – the chair – the bowl on the table – the rock – even our thoughts and feelings. It is all governed by the Laws of Vibration.
Most people are only looking inside their own frame of knowledge. In other words they only relate to what they can see, verify and test. They rely only on their 4 senses to tell them what their reality is. But we know that the sense of smell number 5 is the only sense that is really divine that came out of the Garden intact and still with us today, but rarely used to it’s fullest potential. They are only using their four sensory levels that was corrupted in the Garden to define their frame of knowledge in the time we are living. The sense of smell should never be under estimated when determining health. Remember G-d gave us the divine sense of smell so we may find the herb and oils we need as our medicine to heal.
