The Sense of Smell
The smell is perceived by the olfactory cells which are embedded in the mucous membrane in the upper part of the nose. These cells are a specialized type of nerve cell or sensory neuron, specially adapted for this purpose. The cilia in this part of the nose are highly sensitive and are actually an extension of the nerve fibers connecting with the olfactory cells. These cilia have their tips in the layer of mucous and are able to detect the tiny chemical particles which give rise to the odor of any fragrances which enter the nose, but only after these fragrance particles have been dissolved in the mucous.
The Nose has three primary functions:
a. It filters, warms, and moistens the air breathed in before it reaches the lungs.
b. It acts as a “sound box” to amplify the sounds made by the vocal cords.
c. It is the organ of olfaction (smell).
Essential Oils enter the nose in the form of gasses, as they evaporate when in contact with the air, and we inhale them in this evaporated form. The special cilia pass on to the olfactory cells whatever information they have picked up about the gasses passing through the nose. Each olfactory cell has a long nerve fiber called an axon leading out of the main body of the cell, which in turn picks up this information and passes it on to the brain.
These “messages” are sent along the nerve fibers in the form of electro-chemical energy. In most of the nerves in the body, this passing of “messages” (or impulses) about our environment is done through the spinal cord, and from there to the brain. But in the case of these olfactory cells, the nerve fibers pass through a tiny bony plate at the top of the nose and connect directly with the area of the brain known as the olfactory bulb, situated in the cerebral cortex. As a result, fragrance “messages” are passed on to the brain directly.
Because the cilia are in immediate contact with the source of the fragrance, and because the olfactory cells connect directly with the brain, the sense of smell has a powerful and immediate effect on the body. This occurs because the area of the brain associated with smell is very closely connected with that part of the brain known as the “limbic area” which is concerned with our emotions, memory, sexual drive, intuition, dreams, etc. This is the part of the brain that is not very well understood by modern scientists.
The olfactory bulb also connects closely with the hypothalamus, and in turn, the hypothalamus controls the endocrine gland system (the glands that govern growth, metabolism, reproduction, and also such responses as fright, excitement, etc.).
Virtually every function of the body is controlled by the brain, via the central nervous system, the endocrine glands, etc., so any process that can send “messages” directly to the brain can be used to influence both the physical body and the emotions. The implications of this effect on the sense of smell, and the instant, powerful response to fragrances that we experience, are very important aspects that guide the practice of Aromatherapy. Sages teach us “The sense of smell is the most spiritual of all senses. The Hebrew word for “smell,” rei’ach, is cognate to that for “spirit” (ruach). Our sages teach us smell is the one and only sense that “the soul enjoys and not the body.”

Your Nose discernment of which oils you like or dislike demonstrates the compatibility of your frequency to the essential oil’s frequency. Your Chemistry and the Essential Oil’s Chemistry blend perfectly together to make a beautiful smell. The Midrash tells us that Yom Suf (The sea of Reeds) recognized Klal Yisroel (All of Israel) by her smell before the Great Sea would part. The Sea of Reeds was to only part for it’s Bershert (soul mate) Klal Yisroel. (c)2009 R.Sari

Kedusha Frequency Vibration of set apart Written by Rivka Sari (c) 2005
When we manage to assimilate the frequency of Kedusha (sanctity) in what we do: the home that we build, our family, business, etc. Then “And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them” – “among them” and not “in it”. Then we, the creation and the creation’s abundance are all one, in a perfect unity, and that is the secret of true success.
The connection to the light is done by actions with an awareness meant to elevate our life from a low frequency (Gola) to a high frequency (Geula); from a frequency of disconnection, darkness, shortage, pain and misery to a frequency of a connection to the Creator’s Light, love, joy, abundance and blessings.
Three times a day we pray Kedusha
“Let us sanctify Your name in the world, just as the they sanctify it in the heavens on high, as it is written by the hands of your prophets, ‘And they called one to the other and said, ‘Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts the whole land is filled with your honor Those facing each other said blessed, ‘Blessed is the honor of G-d from His place.’ And in Your holy words it is written saying, ‘G-d shall reign forever, your G-d of Zion, from generation to generation, praised is G-d’.” (Shmoneh Essray of the daily Jewish prayers; chazzan’s repetition)
The Torah clearly shows us deeper meanings:
A great flood was about to arrive on Earth. Noah is told by G-d: “Build yourself an ark… come into the ark together with your family,” and this ark will protect you from the flood.
“Teivah” is the Hebrew word used in the Torah for ark. “Teivah” also means “word.” Says the Baal Shem Tov: “Build yourself an ark” – enter into protective words of Torah and prayer this will Create the Higher level of the Frequency of Kedusha. The vibration, or frequency of our energy, is what creates our ability to mutate and evolve, and The Torah even shows us that. At the end of the story, God shows Noah a rainbow. What is a rainbow? A rainbow is the manifestation of colors at different frequencies, aka, vibrations.
The rainbow in the story of Noah’s ark is symbolic for the different levels of vibration. Each one leading to a higher frequency, more adaptable mutation, and therefore, quicker evolution!
Put it together and you have Noah, the pure person we are supposed to be like, who grows himself by following the laws of G-d, becoming strong enough to handle the challenges of the world, and brings with him those others who were able to do the same. Those who weren’t were eliminated from the line of their species, along with their genetic makeup. So those who focused on the illusionary, materialistic, physical aspects of the world were made extinct while those who aligned themselves with the proactive challenges of G-d’s covenant, were favored and evolved to carry on their more advanced traits for future generations. Thus having Kedusha is simply obeying G-d’s laws it shows here in the story of Noah that it even saves our lives.
The message about achieving the highest frequency Kedusha is obeying G-d’s laws. If we do so, we will be able to become strong enough to weather any storm like Noah did.
