Spice-laden” is the same word as the holy anointing oil (Psa 133). The mountains of division (Bithron), mentioned earlier in the Song, become now the mountains of unity (“Besamin” = balsam and spices, the symbols of unity and peace) ( Shir Shirim 2:17). The mountains of balsam, or spices, could also refer to the Temple Mount, where priests offer the incense of prayer and praise to God. The lovers, who were previously separated in time, are now joined together in eternity, to be the true “Temple” of G-d (1Co 15:28).
