Sudachi High-Quality Essential Oil
5ml
Citrus sudachi
Fruit and Peel
Fruit of Japan
This beautiful oil has the smell of green mandarin, with a limey yuzu citrus fresh aroma. Cultivated for centuries in parts of Japan, and is cultivated just as much as the well-known Yuzu fruit in Japan.
The sour sudachi is not consumed as whole fruit, but is normally squeezed like a lemon or lime to flavor food. A half-slice of this fruit is served as a garnish with many traditional Japanese dishes which include fish, soba, udon, nabe, and even some alcoholic beverages. It is considered to have a zestier flavor and aroma than lemons or limes. It also boasts a higher calcium and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) content than lemons.
Sudachi flavored products (such as ice cream, vodka coolers, ice pops, and soft drinks) can also be found in Japan. The actual fruit is regarded as a delicacy in other parts of Japan and is often expensive.
Some California farms now grow sudachi fruit on a commercial level, after trees became readily available to nurseries in 2008 other states such as Florida now grow this fruit. One seedling was sent to Israel in 2015 but is not ready for cultivation as of yet. The fruit is also being cultivated in Piura, Peru.
