The Hebrew word for peace, Shalom (שׁלום) is derived from a root denoting wholeness or completeness, and its frame of reference throughout all our Jewish literature is bound up with the notion of shelemut, perfection. In the Bible, the word shalom is most commonly used to refer to a state of affairs, one of well‑being, tranquility, prosperity, and security, circumstances unblemished by any sort of defect. Shalom is a blessing, a manifestation of divine grace.
In the Talmud Peace was the ultimate purpose of the whole Torah : “All that is written in the Torah was written for the sake of peace” (Tanhuma Shofetim 18)
Shalom denotes a right relationship with G-d, with others, and with G-d’s good creation.
It is the way God intended things to be when he created the universe. This was God’s original design for his creation—not that we live in scarcity, poverty, or in minimalistic conditions. He desires that we enjoy the fruits of his creation and the fruits of our labor because by doing so, we bring him glory.
His hands gold rings, set with the quartz of Rose; His belly is bright ivory, overlaid with sapphires. – Song of Solomon 5:14
