Steam Distilled Cistus flowers are considered an extremely rare oil. The “rose of Sharon” is probably the cistus or rock-rose. Mount Carmel abounds in the cistus flowers both pink and white. Cistus Essential Oil has a very strong, sweet herbaceous, musky scent. It does not smell like a rose.

Rose of Sharon (Cistus Ladanifer), commonly known as the “rock rose” grew in biblical times in the valley of Sharon in Israel. Its leaves and stems are sticky, eluding a gum that was collected by the Shepherds from the hair of goats that had gotten entangled in the bushes. Shepherds used it on cuts and abrasions for healing wounds. Today, scientific research has discovered it might be more effective in cell regeneration
