Cistus Botanical Wax is derived from the resin of the Cistus ladaniferus plant, also known as rockrose. This one is from the sticky resin part of the plant. The wax color ranges from amber brown to dark brown. It is much different than our Cistus Floral Wax

The wax is medium to hard in form. It takes a bit of coaxing with heart to get the wax to melt, but when it does the effort has so many rewards. It is used in cosmetics for its beneficial properties, including moisturizing and soothing effects on the skin.

This is the black resin from the plant. The plant does produce a sticky, black resin, also known as labdanum, which was used in ancient Egypt for various cultures for its healing properties.  This wax from this product is made from the resin whole plant material that were processed as an absolute and leaves the wax part of the process.

Cistus Cistus ladaniferus, also known as rockrose, is a beautiful and powerful plant with a rich history of medicinal and therapeutic use. Cistus ladanifer is native to the Mediterranean region, particularly Spain and Portugal. It is also native to Israel, Syria, Lebanon as well as Egypt.

Song of Solomon 2:1 – I am the Rose of Sharon and the lily of the valleys.
Isaiah 35:1 – The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them, and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

Cistus is considered are rare oil. The “rose of Sharon” is probably the cistus or rock-rose. Mount Carmel abounds in the cistus. Cistus Essential Oil has a very strong, sweet herbaceous, musky scent. It does not smell like a rose.

Rose of Sharon (Cistus Ladanifer), commonly known as the “rock rose” grew in biblical times in the valley of Sharon in Israel. Its leaves and stems are sticky, eluding a gum which was collected by the Shepherds from the hair of goats that had gotten entangled in the bushes.

Ancient days Shepherds used it on small cuts/abrasions for their sheep or when the shepherds themselves scraped/scratched their own skin or knee. Psalms 23:5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over.”

Shepards carried a cup-like bottle with a top that was filled to the brim with resinous thick salve like oil which was most likely used to keep their sheep from getting infections in their skin from incisions of thorns from thickets and rocks and to prevent and keep flies out of their nostrils and ears. Psalms 23:5 was referring to this custom of Shepards caring for their sheep with this oil often made by Rose of Sharon plant.

Floral and other botanical waxes are easy and very forgiving to use as well as very cost effective in the exploration stage of production and waxes can add body and even texture to a composition or formula where needed.

Floral waxes can be incorporated into creams, lotions, balms, and solid perfumes. The floral wax is a by product of Absolute or CO2 process and the aroma is not as strong as the oil produced. Floral waxes aroma bloom even more when warmed. While floral waxes tend to be quite hard and may take longer to melt, the effort invested can be very rewarding.

Perfect for making incense, beautiful soaps, skincare, lotions, hand-whipped skin creams, and solid perfumes. Just delightful!
