Bay is known for its strong bay leaf aroma. Detox of tissues; muscle warming and analgesic.
This oil contains 1,8-cineole, α-pinene, α-terpinyl acetate, and linalool. You will find 1,8-cineole in eucalyptus, cajeput, and sage. α-Pinene is found in many oils such as myrtle, cistus, angelica root, and Scotch pine. α-Terpinyl acetate appears in cypress and cardamom. Linalool is found in ho wood, lavender tea tree, neroli, and spike lavender.
The French call the leaves feuille de laurier. The Italians call them alloro. Their scientific name in Latin is Laurus nobilis. In English, the tree is called the true laurel, Grecian laurel, bay tree, bay laurel, and sweet bay.
Not to be mistaken for West Indies bay leaves – These wider leaves are from a tree in a totally different family, but they’re still used in Caribbean cooking. Their essential oil is also made into bay rum, a rum-based cologne. We have Bay Rum in stock as well.
