Woodbine Honeysuckle is a climbing plant, common in hedgerows, scrub, and woodlands, where it twines itself around other shrubs and trees. Whorls of trumpet-shaped flowers appear from May to June to early September, and clusters of red berries ripen in the autumn.
The sweet and strong scent of Woodbine Honeysuckle, carried on a warm summer night breeze, is one of the most delightful experiences of the Summer and early Fall Season. In the fall it is the scent is strongest at night where the blossoms has a bit of a herby sweet green note than it does in the springtime and it’s scent is strong enough to attract pollinating moths. This scent is a welcome addition to any garden. Our woodbine honeysuckles begin blooming in late spring and end in early Fall.
How it’s Made:
Flower petals are harvested by hand, one at a time, when they begin to bloom. The blossoms are gathered at twilight and quickly put into the fat carrier oils like coconut, shea butter, and babasou to capture the lovely honeysuckle tea like aroma.
Then we carefully dry some petals and then place those into a sugarcane liquid to extract the green, sweet, and bright notes of the blossoms. We place into our crucible evap to separate the alcohol and the blossom oil from the fat. This oil is very different from our fresh flower solvent extracted absolute, CO2 extracted, and Otto hydro-distilled essential oil.
The Extraction process captures all the essential oil molecules to bring a creamy sweet, zetsy apricot-like, slightly green, and sweet green, and herby finish. So this why we dried the flowers to lock in the green sweet notes.
