The sweet, heady scent of Honeysuckle, carried on a warm summer breeze, is one of the most delightful experiences of the season.Strongest at night in order to attract pollinating moths, this scent is a happy addition to any garden. Honeysuckle is a climbing plant, common in hedgerows, scrub, and woodlands where it twines itself around other shrubs and trees. Whorls of trumpet-shaped flowers appear from April to August and sometimes clusters of berries will ripen in the autumn.
The derived absolute oil has a color that ranges from orangish-brown or deep yellow-green-brown to dark green or brownish, and is a light to medium viscous oil, slightly sticky liquid with a soft sweet, almost full floral slightly green powdery aroma. Its color and thickness depend solely on the results of each batch. Artisan handcrafted so no two batches are the same.
This high-quality oil pairs beautifully with Sandalwood, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin, Sweet Orange, Tangerine, and Ylang Ylang. Although this oil is extracted naturally with organic sugarcane from the flowers of Lonicera caprifolium, it mixes effortlessly with both essential oils and carrier oils. Thanks to the honeysuckle flowers’ natural waxy component, it’s ideal for creating smooth, well blended oil combinations than it would in a perfumer’s alcohol. So keep that in mind when blended.
Real honeysuckle is rarely steam-distilled because its delicate, tiny trumpet-shaped flowers don’t release their essential oils through that method. To get a decent amount of oil, you would need a huge quantity of flowers. Steam distillation will, however, give you a lovely hydrosol. The essential oil itself can only be obtained through natural solvent extractions, enfleurage maceration, CO2 extraction, or ethanol extraction.
