This beautiful Saffron is artisan-made oil it is an enfleurage in its own right because is produced once per year with the gathering of stigmas from three different producers with the rest dedicated to annual spice production. Stigma are macerated infused into raw golden Israeli Jojoba Oil then repeated the recharge of the stigmas seven (7) times and then 18 drops of saffron absolute oil is added in the end of the process.
Saffron demonstrates a very interesting and complex aroma profile that can impart a sweet, beautiful leather-like, earthy heart note in a modern perfume blend or in a skincare serum or cream. Just a tiny amount can bring deep complex notes to a sophisticated perfume of distinction. Saffron was tested and found as one of the ingredients in the Holy Ketoret incense discovered by Vendyl Jones.
Saffron is known to be one of the most expensive spices. This is because the stigmas of the plant are handpicked to make the spice. Saffron oil has a very interesting odor. It has a woody, spicy, sweet leather, hay-like aroma.
Saffron is a luxurious spice because of the arduous task of hand-removing stigmas, also called threads, from the flower. Each flower produces only three with over 80,000 crocus flowers needed to obtain just one pound of dried stigmas for spice.
The space required to grow 80,000 crocus flowers encompasses one acre. To produce Saffron absolute hundreds of thousands of dried flower stigmas are needed.
The main constituent, safranal, is an aldehyde and responsible for Saffron’s distinctively sweet, spicy, floral, and aldehyde aroma. It’s very impressive to find an absolute that requires the tops of the three-branches stylus from some of the most expensive plant materials available.
