Also known as Sephardic Oshek, Oshek Myrrh, Moroccan Galbanum, Vasha Myrrh, Vashi Myrrh, and Veshek Resin. Oshek resin is said to be burned to this day in the Moroccan and Persian Jewish tradition before the Holy Torah Scrolls are removed from the Synagogue Ark. This is only done on reading of Torah during the weekdays not Shabbat or Yom Tovim days.

The source plant has been identified as Ferula brevifolia which is native to Morocco. This is truely a forgotten resin that is important in Jewish Sephardic Tradition. Some scholars would argue this is the Galbanum used in Temple incense but since the incense was found by Vyndl Jones Israeli Antiquities now know it is Ferula galbaniflua after being tested.

Ferula is a gum-resin exuded from several perennial herbs in the genus Ferula of the umbel family (Apiaceae). There are three types of amoniacum gums: ammoniac of Cyrenaica Dorema amoniacum, also Ferula marmarica native to Libya, Egypt, Israel, Jordon, and Morocco. The known commercial resin of Persian Ferula galbaniflua is also referred to as Ammoniacum resin.  All these are called Ammoniacum resin tears.

This Ammoniacum resin tears from Morocco Ferula ammoniacum has a gorgeous green aroma, similar to, but softer and sweeter than its cousin Galbanum (Ferula galbaniflua) which is well known and used in aromatherapy, anointing oil blends and modern perfumes.

It can be described as pungent, fresh, and full bodied aroma. This lovely resin has been used since ancient times for its medicinal and therapeutic properties. It is said that not only did Queen Esther soak in sweet myrrh but many resins are refer to as a myrrh including this resin known as  “Vasha Myrrh”. Even though it is not a Myrrh resin from Myrrh family of resin maybe because much like Galbanum this resin can elevate other resins other and aromas. This resin is quite compatable together with traditional Myrrh. See Esther 2:12.
