Rich Red Amber color with a very medicinal aroma. Green spicey aroma with a hint of sweet fresh grassy notes. It is very difficult to grow in commercial cultivation environments for creating a distillation essential oil, so it is generally sold as wildcrafted product and usually in a tincture form.
Our Osha root is considered very sacred in indigenous communities. Osha Bear Root is wildcrafted by the maceration method of soaking roots into a combination of carrier oils such as Safflower oil, Fractionated Coconut oil, Radix Root oil extract, White Sesame seed oil, and Israeli Olive oil to capture all the healing properties of the roots.
The essential oil small molecules are in there we just capture the whole larger molecules too along with it. This is a 50-day process and is repeated twice. It takes discipline and patience to create this extraction. Osha roots contain naturally occurring oils and compounds, including camphor, saponins, ferulic acid, terpenes, and phytosterols.
When forging for this special root Osha Plant Ligusticum poteri (Osha or oshá ) is a mountain plant and can be found in deep, moist soils rich in organic matter at elevations between 9,000 – 10,000 ft in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky. Osha is an important perennial herb that inhabits also the dry, upland meadows and ravines of the Rocky Mountain too. The beneficial part of the Osha plant is the roots, which have long been used for cold, cough, and respiratory ailments.
Osha root can help alleviate breathing concerns in a number of capacities. Osha root helps clear mucus from the sinuses and lungs by increasing expectoration; this relieves congestion and makes breathing easier. Osha root also increases blood circulation to the lungs, which increases dilation during constriction.
For this reason, it is particularly of interest as a support mechanism for some serious lung ailments. The broncho-dilating effect is compounded by Osha root’s ability to help the efficacy of the lungs by increasing oxygen utilization and uptake in the body. It is believed the increased blood oxygenation is facilitated by an increase in gas exchange through the alveoli in the lungs. In simpler terms, Osha root helps a person to take deeper breaths which is much needed.
Native Americans often observed that bears would look for Osha and consume the plant roots directly after emerging from winter hibernation or when wounded or sick. This is why it is called “Bear Root”, Osha is a Native American word for bear and is referred to as “Bear Medicine,” since the plants are eaten by bears for what appear to be medicinal purposes.
How to use:
Simply just take a few drops and apply to the chest area and massage it in, under the nose and on the bottom of feet to clear lunch. Also is excellent for pain relief too. Do not have to worry about a carrier oil it’s already in the formula and ready to use. You can also add a few drops to a body bath or a foot bath. Add a drop to the crook of the elbow and bend arm up and hold in place for a few minutes to quickly get to the lungs to clear mucous.
