Aroma: Light, slightly sweet citrusy, soft floral aroma with woody, and spice notes. Also known as Sea Pine and Ocean Pine, this material has a fresh, coniferous, resinous, woody, and faintly floral note to it. A much gentler and sweet aroma oil compared to Scotch Pine and Black Pine. Maritime Pine has a higher ester content than the other pine essential oils. This gives the oil its analgesic effect as well as giving it sedative and anti-anxiety properties. Maritime pine has also been found to be beneficial for pain and arthritis.
The Modern Hebrew word for the pine, Oren, is mentioned only once in the Bible, in Isaiah 44:14 (He planteth ash ארן ‘oren. The Septuagint renders it, Πίτυν Pitun which means Pine, while other trees like cedar (Erez), cypress (Berosh), oak (Alon), and terebinth (Elah) are mentioned frequently. It has been passed down from one generation to another that Oren refers to this pine tree in the original Hebrew language.
