About Artisan Co-Distillation of Lavender

We carefully gathered a selection of lavender flowers and buds, including Stoechas, Desert Spike, Folgate, Purple Grosso, Hidcote, White Grosso, Purple Provence, Royal Velvet, Blue Seal, Super Purple, White Stoechas, and Blue Lilac, from various locations across the Holy Land.

We then artisan co-distilled these in small batches to produce both essential oil and flower water hydrosol. Both products are truly wonderful, although our supply of the essential oil is limited. In addition to our production efforts, we are committed to giving back to the environment by replanting lavender throughout Israel.

Lavender is native to the Mediterranean, the Middle East, and India. Its history goes back some 2500 years. Lavender is a flowering plant of the mint family known for its beauty, its sweet floral fragrance, and its multiple uses.

The ancient Greeks called Lavender nardus, after the Syrian city of Naarda, which was a part of Ancient Israel, and was commonly called Nard in Hebrew language which can be found in ancient Biblical texts of Tanach.

Lavender was one of the holy herbs used to prepare the holy essence and Nard, or known as ‘SpikeNard’ which is referred to as Desert Spike Lavender, which is mentioned in the Bible in the ‘Song of Solomon’, among other places. Lavender according to the Temple Institute of Jerusalem was an ingredient in the Temple Incense “Ketoret”.

Lavender derives its name from the Latin ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash”. The Israelites and Romans alike used Lavender to scent their baths, beds, clothes, and even hair.
