These flowers are originally found and located in the Southern Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar, Réunion Island has been recognized by the world’s perfume industry as the source of the finest Geranium for more than a century. Geranium Bourbon essential oil from Reunion commands a higher price than traditional geranium essential oils. The reunion flower grows natively in Israel and Egypt because of centries of trade with Madagascar reunion Island or quite possible the other way around who knows. What we do know this Reunion Island flowers are now native to these areas.
The flowers are typically five-petaled and white to purple in color. The leaves are palmate divided into narrow, pointed segments.The fruit capsule consists of five cells joined to a column produced from the centre of the flower. The grey-green leaves are variable according to climate and soil conditions, but are typically 70 mm in length, deeply lobed, pointed and very highly fragrant.
The cells form lobes which eventually separate, each containing one seed.When the fruit is ripe, the beak-like stigma springs open and casts the seeds some distance, dispersing the seeds for reproduction. Grows in Mediterranean Woodlands and Shrublands, Semi-steppe shrublands, Shrub-steppes, Montain vegetation of Mt. Hermon and in the upper Galilee.
