Today, scientific research has discovered it might be more effective on cell regeneration of skin. Ancient days Shepherds used it on small cuts/abrasions for their sheep or when the shepherds themselves scraped/scratched their own skin or knee. Psalms 23:5 says “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over.”
Shepards carried a cup-like bottle with a top that was filled to the brim with oil which was most likely used to keep their sheep from getting infecttions in their skin from incisions of thorns from thickets and rocks and to prevent and keep flies out of their nostrils and ears from laying eggs. Psalms 23:5 was referring to this custom of Shepards caring for their sheep with oil.
