Psiadia altissima from which Arina essential oil is distilled is an Eastern Madagascan native that sometimes is called Iary. It is a rare essential oil that we carry very small amounts in stock.
The oil is sometimes used as a substitute for frankincense in blends. I have compared it to Frankincense species such as Boswella carterii, neglecta, frereana, sacra, serrata, papyrifera, and even our rare species Dalzielii it is definitely very unique with some Frankincense resin notes but also has notes more in line with Galbanum and smokey green notes of Cognac or Tonka Bean aroma with hints of White Pine. Arina is terpene-rich about 80% and has beta-pinene 39.7% which both constituents account for the Pine notes.
In Madagascar, the oil has been traditionally used as an insect repellent but is also used to relieve persistent itching, sore throats, coughs, and bronchial conditions. Getting rarer as Madagascar’s farmers are switching to rice crops instead of Arina. Medium Aroma and can be become a little sticky once the bottle is opened You really want to savor this one because of its medicinal uses much like Frankincense should be also and because it is becoming very rare already.
