The tree resin was harvested in South America and Produced in USA in 1919 just after WWI. This vintage oil, an inheritance, is a rare piece of history from 1919, making it 107 years old. There are two dates; the one at the top of the bottle is the date it was dispensed 5/6/20. The date on the side of the bottle shows it was made in 1919 and both dates are in pencil.
The bottle remained perfectly sealed until it was finally opened in May 2026. The sealed bottle is the main reason this oil has lasted so long. While it contains small bits of cork, it can be removed with a little effort, which is why we’re offering a full 5ml size for this treasure.
Peru balsam is a dark brown almost black, thick goopy liquid with an aromatic smell similar to that of vanilla like spice and has a sweet hay like note which is very unusual. Smells amazing considering the age of this oil. Perfect for essential oil blends, creating complex high end perfume formulations, great for incense making and of course.
It is obtained from the tree after the bark has been removed; the trunk is wrapped with rags that are later boiled to extract the resin. The Balsam was imported almost exclusively from El Salvador to Europe through Peruvian ports, which is how the material derived its name.
Considering at the time the Spanish flu was an issue during the 1919 to 1920s this oil would have been popular for being Anti-inflammatory, used to relieve muscular aches and pains of the flu, to support respiratory function, antimicrobial, antiseptic and analgesic, decongestant and calms a spastic cough. stimulates the respiratory system, the immune system, the adrenal glands, and the circulatory system.
