Our rosemary extract contains Carnosic Acid, the active component and antioxidant of this material found in both rosemary and sage. Carnosic acid, a phenolic diterpene specific to the Lamiaceae family, is highly abundant in rosemary.
Carnosine is also a peptide produced in the human body that is believed to possess rich antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Rosemary helps the body to produce this peptide. However, research on the benefits of carnosine is limited, and results are mixed. Many people however do praise it healing properties.
The importance of the diterpenic and rosmarinic acid content in the biological activities of rosemary extracts has been studied previously, but how the relationship between the concentration of these components affects their antioxidant and antibacterial activities has received little attention.
