DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
Kataf Green Myrrh is a rare Myrrh is rare and found only in Kenya, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen and is rarely or not often offer on the open market of resin oil and resins. The scent is unique compared to other myrrh species and is reminiscent Heavy balsamic earth tones with subtle hints of sweet citrus and desert artemesia green notes with light toffee and sweet licorice bottom notes The resin is deep almost black dark amber cherry wood in color and it produces a beautiful green jade-like essential oil.
Not only is this a gorgeous resin so is the oil it produces, it is also sustainably harvested and purchased through fairtrade practices from the women of the Samburu tribe in Northern Kenya a highly protected area of Kenya. This resin is directly purchased from these women to support their community. C. kataf contituents are of monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes. Some of these compounds showed different biological activities. Ethnobotanical information gathered from local people revealed that the resins of these species enjoy a wide array of traditional uses.
In Yemen this resin is usually found in the Northern region of Socotra Islands and is also sustainably harvested through fair trade practices. In Saudi Arabia is also harvested and purchased through fairtrade practices. So these resins are acquired from all these countries to gather enough for a good yield of essential oil.
Historically Kataf Myrrh was used in traditional medicine in Arab and African markets and much of the Middle Eastern worlds in the past. But today is rarely found. When resin is burned for incense purposes it gives a bitter, sweet, citrus, and herbaceous notes with subtle hints of mint and camphor-like notes tickle the nose with delight.
Some say this myrrh was traded with Ethiopia and other parts of the middle east and made its way to Israel during King Solomon’s reign who loved and collected resins from all over the world. Some scholars say that King Solomon only agreed to take a wife from the lands of Yemen, Saudia Arabia, and Kenya to have this rare Myrrh resin. It is said that Queen Esther bathed in several species of myrrh, not just the traditional bitter-sweet myrrh we all know and love.
The resin has been used as an astringent and stimulant, and aids in stomach health and wound care; it has been used in mouthwashes as a traditional medicine over the centuries as well. The oil extracted from this rare resin has also been popular in the Middle East in rare perfumes and medicines due to its unique and intoxicating scent and color and it is a favorite over the coveted Oud.

Before processing the Kataf Resin we like to Holy Land Charge our resins by placing them into a clay vessel and place in our garden at Rimmon Farm for 18 days to soak up the energy of the Holy Land. After 18 days we uncover the resins and then artisan distilled them in the traditional Hydro distillation method that produces this rare and unique green jade-blue green essential oil.
