Tigertail Blue Spruce is an evergreen conifer that is native to a limited, but stable number of subalpine forest areas in the mountains of central Japan. It will grow over time to as much as 80′ tall with a broad pyramidal form and spreading branches.
It was collected by John Gould Veitch on an ascent of Mt. Fuji-yama in September of 1860. It was originally given the species name of alcoquiana and the common name of Alcock spruce in honor of Sir Rutherford Alcock a British minister to Tokyo from 1858 to 1862 who accompanied Veitch on the climb.
Genus name is reportedly derived from the Latin word pix meaning pitch in reference to the sticky resin typically found in spruce bark. The species name, Torano is from the Japanese vernacular toran-wo, meaning “tiger’s tail or tail of the tiger.”
Locals like to use this as an ointment for Pain Relief, Arthritis, Fatigue, and Respiratory Care. People only collect the sap and what has fallen to the ground for medicine to preserve the trees. Local Producer has followed the same practice when making this essential oil. It takes 2 years to collect enough material to distill for 1 oz of essential oil
This oil has an evergreen aroma and contains remarkable benefits that come from high percentages of the constituents alpha-pinene and limonene. GS Analysis report is available with order.
