Saffron oil has a distinctive aroma. It has a woody, spicy, sweet leather, hay-like aroma.

Saffron is a luxurious spice because of the arduous task of hand-removing stigmas, also called threads, from the flower. Each flower produces only three, with over 80,000 crocus flowers needed to obtain just one pound of dried stigmas for spice.

The space required to grow 80,000 crocus flowers encompasses one acre. To produce Saffron absolute hundreds of thousands of dried flower stigmas are needed to even produce 1oz. This is why it is rare on the market. Vey few artisans want to invest the time. I personally think it is worth it!  This beautiful Saffron absolute is an artisan-made oil that is produced once per year with the gathering of stigmas from three different growers, with the rest dedicated to annual spice production.

Saffron abs demonstrate a very interesting and complex aroma profile that can impart a sweet beautiful leather-like, earthy heart note in a modern perfume blend or in a skincare serum or cream. Just a tiny amount can bring deep complex notes to a sophisticated perfume of distinction. Saffron was tested and found as one of the ingredients in the Holy Ketoret incense discovered by Vendyl Jones.

Benefits are for cosmetic use, circulation, and anxiety, and may help curb the appetite when inhaled. Saffron is known to be one of the most expensive spices. This is because the stigmas of the plant are handpicked to make the spice. This oil is  Solvent Extracted By Sugar Can Ethanol that is placed into a vacuum crucible, and processing takes about 3 hours. After evaporating all the ethanol off, you are left with a gorgeous, rich oil.

The main constituent, safranal, is an aldehyde and is responsible for Saffron’s distinctively sweet, spicy, floral, and aldehyde aroma. It’s very impressive to find an absolute that has a requirement of the tops of the three-branch stylus from some of the most expensive plant materials available.

Blends well with: Agarwood (Oud), Ambrette, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Clementine, Jasmine grand, Jasmine sambac, lemon, lime, key lime, Sweet Joppa Orange, Onycha (Benzoin), Palo Santo, Rose Bulgaria, Rose Morocco, Sandalwood, Tangerine, Tuberose, and Vanilla

From Biblical texts Song of Solomon 4:14 and Exodus 30:22-32 (Ketoret)
