This base note has balsamic undertones with heavy vanilla top notes and is a beautiful fixative in perfume blends. Sometimes referred to as Judaic Balsam or Jewish Balsam

The common name of poplar buds, Balm of Gilead, is a Biblical reference to Mecca Balsam which grows all over the middle eastern countries and is the source of balsamic oils mentioned in the Rambam Writings while he lived in Egypt. Balm of Gilead is also featured prominently in many Jewish, Native American, Hindu, Chinese, and Arabic traditions of medicines.

The species Commiphora opobalsamum species of Balsam also known as True Judaic Balsam, was transplanted in Israel from Somalia, Yemen, and Ethiopia about 25 years ago by Dr. Zohar Amar, is the Chief Spice of the Temple Incense, and only this Judaic Balsam that is grown in Israel can be used for the Incense.

Everything is fresh and used immediately and what we do not use right away we freeze to be used at a later date. Poplar buds are best used fresh, and live for medicines either in making absolute essential oil, steam distillation essential oi, or a maceration essential oil. If not fresh from tree, then must be from bud that were picked fresh then frozen and thawed for medicine.

*Dried buds will always be rotten, black, and crumbly inside from fungal decay. Be aware that the majority of Poplar Balsam Bud Absolute and steam-distilled Essential Oils on the market are usually made from rotten dried buds. PLEASE DO NOT EVER USE DRIED BUDS FOR ANY MEDICINES.
