Known as Israeli Citronella, Eucalyptus Judaica, and Judean Eucalyptus.

According to the Eucalyptus myth it is said that it is not native, was brought to Israel from Australia, and took part in transforming the land through gardening and forestry. From 1890 it was planted by Jewish natives in swampy areas including the regions of Hadera, Rosh Pina, K’fir Saba, and Petach Tikva. These trees gave the long-deserted land a boost it needed and the deserted areas of many parts of Judea (Israel) became lush and green again.

These trees became a hero to the land and saved the eco system and the land flourished. Although there are several species planted local say that Eucylptus citriodora is actually the native tree which is why it bears the name Judean Eucalyptus or Judean Lemon Eucalyptus. The Eucalyptus teaches us all a small lesson in nature management in complex Mediterranean landscapes wetland verses dryland growth. No matter what is the tale it saved the Holy Land from ruin along with the beautiful Jerusalem Pine trees during a time when the land laid waste and was deserted.
