Many parts of Israel including Southern Israel’s Kommemiyut Forest grow so many wonderful Jerusalem Pine. Forests can be found in Galilee, Samaria, Judea, Gilead, and Mt.Carmel. Nearly one-third of the forests in Israel are “Natural Forests”, which means these were not planted by man these just naturally grew and flourished on their own.
In Israel, the Jerusalem pine, along with Pinus brutia, has been planted extensively by the locals in many populated and rural areas of Israel. An abundance of Jerusalem Pine are mostly found in remote areas of the Golan Heights. These trees are protected however, we are able to gather enough fallen material all over Israel to distill some amazing essential oil. The aroma is amazing sweet citrus pine with canferous notes.
The Modern Hebrew word for the pine, Oren, is mentioned only once in the Bible, in Isaiah 44:14 (He planteth ash ארן ‘oren. The Septuagint renders it, Πίτυν Pitun which means Pine, while other trees like cedar (Erez), cypress (Berosh), oak (Alon), and terebinth (Elah) are mentioned frequently. It has been passed down from one generation to another that Oren refers to this pine tree in the original Hebrew language.
