Goldenrod’s genus name is “Solidago,” derived from the Latin word “Solide,” which means “to make whole.” Goldenrod’s grassy, bitter-sweet and earthy aroma soothes the body and mind.
Goldenrod (Solidago Canadensis) known also as Solidago, is a common medicinal herb that grows throughout most of Israel and has been widely used for a variety medicinal reasons.
It is a tall herb with beautiful golden flowers that grows along the roads, fields, and in woody rhizomes of Israel’s hillsides and valleys. They may grow to a height of 3 to 7 feet and have narrow leaves and yellow flowers. The leaves and flowering tops of Goldenrod are put through a steam distillation process to extract the essential oil.
Historically, it played the role of natural herbal sweetener which was used to sweeten herbal teas and various herbal remedies. It has a very pleasant sweet flavor which resembles the one of anise. There are numerous goldenrod health benefits.
