The Judean Iris or Gilead Iris is a perennial rhizomatous flowering plant belonging to the genus Iris. It is commonly distributed throughout the deserts of Israel and Jordan. It has a long thick stem, long sword-shaped leaves, and fragrant flowers that come in shades of purply brown, deep rich brown, dark lilac, reddish-black, or the deepest of purple as you can get in nature.
These flowers are protected so sitting with these flowers to take note and study of their aroma, and color in which we chose the deep rich brown and reddish black variety, and we examined their beauty with care. Agriculture and urbanization in Israel have contributed to Gilead and Coastal iris are dwindling in number according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists Gilead and Coastal Iris as “critically endangered.”
I was inspired to create a perfume that honors the beauty of the Iris. I captured her essence with rare floral oils like orris absolute, violet absolute, champa absolute, cistus absolute, and jonquil absolute, and deepened the complex aroma with locally grown balm of gilead, yarrow, oud agarwood, frankincense carterii CO2, ho wood, gurjun balsam, vetiver, white lavender absolute, and lavender grosso. As this is a proprietary blend, the ingredients will not be listed on the bottle.
This oil has an aroma of exotic orris and sweet violet with honeyed, deep floral middle notes, brightened by a hint of fresh citrus at the top. Its base reveals green, earthy, soft floral spice with a lingering richness, and its color ranges from dark yellow-green to deep reddish amber.
In the Bible, the iris flower symbolizes hope, positive thinking, unwavering faith, wisdom, acceptance, and trust. Spiritually, it has been depicted in art and decor as a representation of glory, grace, and dedication. The iris is one of the most beautiful flowers in the world and is often used as a symbol of faith.
