Aquilaria malaccensis from Indonesia known as Agarwood Oud oil is hydro-distilled from trunk surface wood that has some sticky resin on the wood from the Agarwood tree. The oil is harvested and cultivated from younger trees which is sustainably, mindfully, and carefully produced in small batches.
This base note smells like a soft slightly sweet oud without overly heavy harsh barnyard notes that comes with a hint of sandalwood backnotes. This oil is semi viscous and because it comes from younger trees about 30 yrs old it is light to medium yellow green amber in color. This oudish aroma is simply gorgeous and extremely high quality.
The plant Aquilaria malaccensis L. commonly known as agarwood belongs to the Thymelaeaceae family. India, Malaysia, Bhutan, Indonesia, Laos, Singapore, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand and Philippines are all home to this species. A. malaccensis or agallocha and A. crassna are two species of Aquilaria that produce fragrant resin that is used to make agarwood essential oil, also known as gaharu, aloeswood, eagleswood, and oud
Contituents are Cubenol (22.26%), agarospirol (14.35%) and aristolene (13.22%) were the major compounds identified. Agarwood essential oil possess strong anti-inflammatory, stablelize high blood sugar levels, anti-urolithic and tyrosinase inhibitory potentials.
There are some texts that say that agarwood was used in the Torah called Aloeswood. A name applied to a variety of trees containing a fragrant, or aromatic, substance used as a perfume in the Biblical period. (Ps 45:8; Pr 7:17; Ca 4:14) Most commentators consider the aloe tree of the Bible to be the true Agarwood maybe the Aquilaria species.
The prophet Balaam’s comparison of the tents of Israel with “aloe plants that G-d’s has planted, like cedars by the waters,” may relate to the spreading shape of these lofty trees, a cluster of aloe trees resembling an encampment of tents.
On the other hand, Balaam’s reference to the trees does not require that they be growing right in the area where he spoke. If the “cedars” mentioned immediately afterward in this text were cedars of Lebanon, then they would be trees growing outside that area, and the same could be true of the aloes.
Suggested use: Blends with Cedarwood, Frankincense, Black Pepper, Jasmine, Gardenia, negev Rose, Bergamot, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Neroli, Vetiver, Ylang-Ylang, and Vanilla oleoresin.
