It is also called Rhodinol Grass is an ancient herb that is strong and repeals mosquitos. In Biblical times, the Lemongrass was most likely used as food, in perfumes, incense, and possibly the lemongrass mentioned as an ingredient in the special Holy Anointing Oil used by the Priests in the Holy Temple. Lemongrass is “a plant of remarkable fragrance and a native of Central India, Middle Eastern countries where it is used to mix with ointments, on account of the delicacy of its odor.Lemongrass grows all over Israel and is easily available in the plains and rocky hills of Israel such as the Golan Heights where it is often prepared in Israel Cuisine.
A kibbutz not far from the city of Ofakimabout 30 kilometers west of Beersheba, grows Lemongrass to distill into essential oil and hydrosol and made into cosmetics. Much is harvested as well for the food industry of Israel and many herbalists and apothecaries in Israel use Lemongrass in their elixirs for herbal medicines.
