Gurjun Balsam essential oil produced by steam distillation of resin gum from the Dipterocarpus turbinatus tree in Indonesia is prized in natural perfumery as an inexpensive fixative.

Gurjun Balsam has the unique ability to smooth out rough edges and blend aromatic notes together in a seamless and cohesive manner. Although it is sometimes referred to as East Indian Copaiba Balsam, there is no botanical relationship between Gurjun and Copaiba Balsam, neither in terms of aroma nor chemistry.

Beneficial use: Antiseptic, anti-anxiety, anti-asthmatic, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, bedsores (pressure sores), calming, cicatrisant, dermatitis, eczema, mucolytic, rheumatic pain, sedative, skin inflammation, wound healing.

The essential oil extracted from the resin of the Gurjun trees contains beta-caryophyllene, bicyclic sesquiterpene hydrocarbon, humulene and sesquiterpene alcohol.
