Number 11:7 Now the manna was reminiscent of coriander seed, with an appearance similar to amber.
Amber is a fossilized tree resin that is known for its warm, golden color. It is often associated with light, radiance, and vitality. In this sense, amber can be seen as a symbol of spiritual illumination and enlightenment.
In the Bible, light is frequently used as a metaphor for divine presence, guidance, and truth. For example, Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” This suggests that amber, with its radiant qualities, can symbolize the divine light as a guide for you on a spiritual journey. Furthermore, amber is also associated with warmth and healing properties. Its color evokes feelings of comfort and security.
The oil comes from a process called “dry distillation” when whereby the Amber resin is processed over high heat until an oily substance is obtained then put through a rectified distillation. When an essential oil contains any left over unwanted material, it can be purified by re-distillation – either in steam or in a vacuum, and this purification by re-distillation is referred to as rectification.
This oil was inherited from my late father of blessed memory who had 4 large bottles of this magnificient oil from same Batch number. This vintage oil comes from c1920-30’s Magnus, Mabee & Reynard Company so we are not certain which method was used for rectification. However, we do know this is a highly coveted oil in the perfumery and Aromatherapy world. get this soon because when it is gone its gone.
When I was in the perfume industry back in the 80’s Fossilized Amber oil was used often and the more vintage (aged) it was the better and higher the price. So I do know what value this vintage Amber oil would bring to the table in the Fragrance and Perfume industry.
The oil aroma is not sweet like vanilla that you usually find on the market, in fact, it is almost like smelling smokey tar with the slight spice of vetiver which can be harsh on the nose but a drop in well thought out blend is delightful and because of this it is not often used as the main note in perfumes and complex blends.
So vanilla is not a note of real Amber (Oleum succini /Anbar) essential oil and if it is then it has been modified with other aromatic oils much like a attar oil blend. This oil is not Liquidambar styraciflua either which is from Hazel Sweet Pine trees which also has a vanilla piney note.
This is in fact the Real Amber Oil and is oh so extremely rare. So when used in tiny amounts and in some cases trace amounts it can bring out some amazing and interesting nuances with deep complex notes to your blend you would not have thought possible. Absolutely Outstanding Oil!!!!
You can find this oil in our Amber Synergy Blend, Oil of Joy Blend, and our Champa & Amber Synergy Blends.
There are some rabbis and scholars who suggest Amber could have been in the Holy Temple Ketoret incense and it was one of four ingredients that were in addition to the listed 11 ingredients. In addition to these eleven ingredients, the following were also part of the Incense: Salt of Sodom [מלח סדומית] – a fine-grained salt, presumably from the Dead Sea. Quantity: 1/8 of a gallon. Jordan amber [כיפת הירדן] – is a plant that grows on the banks of the Jordan River.
Quantity: a minute amount. Maaleh Ashan [מעלה עשן] – a substance (whose identity was a trade secret of the Avtinas family) that caused the smoke of the Incense to rise straight up. Quantity was a minute amount according to the Talmud. So there were 14 ingredients total in the Ketoret incense.
Blends well with: Agarwood, Balsam of Peru, Benzoin, Black Currant Bud, Cedarwood, Champaca, Cinnamon Bark, Cistus, Clary Sage, Clove Bud, Cocao, Coriander, Cypress, Elemi, Fir Balsam, Frankincense, Galbanum, Geranium, Jasmine, Juniper, Labdanum, Lavandin, Lavender, Liquidambar (Styrax), Myrrh, Nagarmotha, Oakmoss, Opopanax, Orris, Osmanthus, Patchouli, Pine, Rose, Sandalwood, Seaweed, Spikenard, Spruce, Tobacco, Tonka Bean, Tuberose, Vanilla, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang.
