Rain Forest trees produce the essential oils of Rosewood. This oil is a very limited product from our Brazillian Artisan Producer/Distiller who maintains sustainable, organically cultivated tiny grove on privately owned land in the forests of Brazil.
This Brazilian Artisan found a way to meet these needs by cultivating this grove, much like the initiative Australia took to save the Mysore Sandalwood. Tree tops are trimmed, keeping the trees alive and healthy rather than taking out whole trees and as a result, and are able to provide Rosewood oil which is both compliant and contains all the beautiful notes of this loved precious oil.
And since we do know the source of our ethically produced rosewood, we are very happy to offer this precious essential oil. Limited 1 bottle per order, please.
Rosewood Essential Oil is a versatile oil that blends so well with other wood, citrus, spice, herbaceous, and floral oils, but it should be used sparingly and with respect because it is in extremely short supply.
**Acquired Only From Legal Sustainable Source** Rosewood is an endangered species and the oil cannot be sold without a special certificate from the Brazilian Government to confirm that it comes from sustainable sources. This is called a CITES certificate, and our Rosewood carries this certificate from the artisan distiller who produced this oil.
The Brazillian variety we carry often because the material is more abundant, but cost is expensive to cultivate and harvest. As you may be aware, some companies have unfortunately procured Rosewood illegally or sold Ho Wood as Rosewood or Rosewood adulterated with Ho Wood. This is why it was important to get REAL Rosewood oil from a sustainable, organic, reliable, and legal source.
I will say Ho Wood is a good substitute for Rosewood aromatically in blends instead of using such a rare oil as Rosewood. But there is nothing quite as beautiful as the sweet deep notes of Rosewood. So use Rosewood wisely and know your source for this precious oil.
This oil is produced from only the branches and not the trunk or whole tree is harvested. We then allow the oil to age 5-10 years before selling it. We like not having those green notes in the oil which much like Sandalwood mellows out with age and this is when the oil is most coveted.
Several Scholars say that Rosewood is quite possibly a candidate for the scarlet branch used in the Bible for ritual purposes of the Holy Temple. The wood may have been imported and used to build the Oxen cart that carried the Holy Ark and some of the Holy Temple Vessels. This wood may be the mysterious unknown Biblical timber call gopher גֹּפֶר wood spoken about in the Torah in the story of Noah in the book of Genesis.
The deep red of the Rosewood tree overlaid with Gold may have been used by King David to transport the Holy Ark. Imagine the beauty?
It is quite possible that this Gofer גֹּפֶר wood is related to the word Kofer קופר in Hebrew for the word Henna which is the plant that the color red comes from used to dye garments as well hair and used in henna engagement ceremonies and weddings. so it would make sense that it was a mahogany type wood like Rosewood.
These two words do share the root word shoresh letters pher פר. the word pher means bull and because this root is shared with both henna and gofer tree is plausable it could be describing the color of the wood used thus being the Rosewood tree. It was New Cart made of wood and a oxen bull pulling the new cart the Holy Ark was being carried on.
There is also some Rabbis and sages that say the Golfer tree is also more square than round. The Rosewood tree also would fit that description also. These Sages also make the commentary the second time the Ark was brought to David it was done properly as the Torah instructed from G-d. The Poles which carried the Ark by the Levites were both made from “shittim wood” according to some translators and others say the Ark and Poles were made from “golfer wood” and overlaid with gold. Either way, it seems plausible that both Noah’s Ark and the Holy Ark are made from beautiful mahogany-type wood.
2 Samuel 6:3 “They set the ark of G-d on a new cart and brought it from the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart.”
So David went down and brought up the ark of G-d from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. When those who were carrying the ark of the L-RD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf.” (6:12-13)
This time, David makes sure to do G-d’s will in G-d’s way. It’s interesting that they’re rejoicing, after their previous aborted celebration. But David knows what he had done wrong the first time in how the Holy Ark was carried and he has made it right. He and the people came with faith before the L-rd and G-d honors them in it and Rosewood was still a part of it.
Rosewood has a fantastic warm and woody scent, while at the same time being both floral and fruity. Rosewood oil is rich in linalool, a chemical which can be transformed into a number of derivatives of value to the flavor and fragrance industries. Anti-infectious is great for the elderly and children.
