Don’t EVER use turmeric if you’re on any medications

by Rivka Sari | Apr 24, 2016  Health, Remedies & Natural Cures |22 April 2016 Turmeric is often touted as a natural cure-all for most common ailments. It is also usually recommended as an alternative to pharmaceuticals and other medications as it is a natural substance and produces fewer side effects. Although these are all valid points, this leads many people to underestimate the effect that turmeric has on your body. Research has shown that turmeric can actually cause some serious side effects if taken in high doses or used in combination with other drugs. What is Turmeric? When people refer to “turmeric” they are usually referring to the ground-up root of the turmeric plant. The use of turmeric dates back to India almost four thousand years ago, where it was used as a culinary spice and also in medicinal and ceremonial situations. Although many of it’s claimed benefits go without scientific backing, turmeric has still been proven in many studies to provide a wide variety of health benefits. Most of turmeric’s health benefits come from the active ingredient found inside it called curcumin. Throughout the extensive studies conducted on curcumin, researchers found that curcumin exhibits anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-carcinogenic and anti-thrombotic (reduces blood clots) effects. As a result of all of these beneficial properties, people often use turmeric as an alternative to, or in combination with, other drugs that they use to treat their ailments. They often do this to avoid the complications and side effects that occur when one takes high doses of pharmaceutical drugs. However, the same properties that make turmeric so beneficial also make it dangerous to take in combination...

General Hemophilia Information for People who have a bleeding disorder

General Hemophilia Information (c) 2011 Written By Rivka Sari by Rivka Sari | Jan 28, 2016 | blog, essential oils for hemophilia, HEMOPHILIA, Safety, Uncategorized | 0 comment Written By: Rivka Sari (c) 2011 General Hemophilia Information Hemophilia is a rare disease that prevents the blood from clotting normally. A person with hemophilia lacks the necessary clotting factors to stop bleeding, so he often needs some sort of intermittent treatment to avoid serious blood loss in the event of a cut or injury. Approximately 20,000 Americans suffer from hemophilia. The disease can be mild, moderate or severe, depending on the how impaired a person’s clotting factors are. The idea that a hemophiliac can bleed to death from a minor cut is a fallacy. A person with hemophilia may bleed a bit longer from a minor external injury or cut, but most of these problems can be easily remedied using typical first aid practices. The biggest concern for hemophiliacs is internal bleeding because it can occur without obvious signs and can cause very serious, life-threatening situations. Bleeding into the joints, muscles and other soft tissues is of major concern. Possible Causes of Hemophilia There are two major types of hemophilia, classified depending on which particular clotting protein is missing:Hemophilia A is caused by a lack of factor VIII. It accounts for approximately 80% of all hemophilia cases. It is passed to male children from a mother who carries the disease. Hemophilia B, also caused Christmas disease, is caused by a deficiency of factor IX. It is also passed to male children by a mother who is a carrier. It is...
Aroma for Brain Health?

Aroma for Brain Health?

In studies performed at Vienna and Berlin Universities, researchers discovered that sesquiterpenes, a natural compound found in essential oils of Vetiver, Patchouli, Cedarwood, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Frankincense Rivae, Frankinense Sacra can increase levels of oxygen in the brain by up to 28 percent (Nasel, 1992). Such an increase in brain oxygen may lead to a heightened level of activity in the hypothalamus and limbic systems of the brain, which can have dramatic effects on not only emotions but on learning, attitude, and many physical processes of the body such as: immune function, hormone balance, and energy levels. High levels of sesquiterpenes also occur in Melissa, Myrrh, Cedarwood, and Clove essential oils. Research from the universities of Berlin and Vienna found that sesquiterpenes increase oxygenation around the pineal and pituitary glands. This allows for ideal balance of emotion-regulating and memory-stimulating hormones. We recommend brain blends such as  Brain Health, Stress Ease Now, and Mind Over Matter, to calm your emotion, create more oxygen, ease headaches, ease stress, to build your immune system and quiet all over  body inflammation. The bottom line is that essential oils can penetrate not only the blood-brain barrier, but they can also penetrate the skin, follow nerve pathways, follow the meridians, and provide healing and balance even at the cellular level such as cellular memory and DNA. Holy Smokes! Incense is a Higher Ground of Medicinal & Original Aromatherapy?

Holy Smokes! Incense is a Higher Ground of Medicinal & Original Aromatherapy?

The ‘ketoret’ is the incense described in the Bible for use in the Holy Temple. Its composition and usage is described in greater detail in midrash, the Talmud and subsequent rabbinic literature. Although it was not produced following the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE, some Jews study the composition of the ancient Temple incense for future use in a restored Temple as part of daily Jewish services. Contemporary Judaism still uses aromatic spices in one ritual, the havdala) ceremony ending the Sabbath. In addition, there is a blessing for pleasant smells. Most Incense can be used for Aromatherapy medicinal purposes. Some people like to make into a ritualistic experience, but in Jewish tradition this is forbidden when burning incense because of the ketoret incense was and is the only ritual burning of incense allowed. Since our Temple does not stand we can no longer burn ketoret. But much of it’s ingredients like frankincense, myrrh, cassia etc can be used for healing purposes only. Incense can purify a space from germs. The burning of incense, use of essential oils, or inhaling of nature’s aromas outdoors was one of the original natural “treatments,” helping to keep humans in balance on many different levels since the beginning of time. It just goes to show that as we continue on the path of technological advancement of our planet, modern medicine, and further disconnection from G-d’s creation of nature, society ultimately relies more and more on man-made drugs and chemicals to make up for the lack of awareness of, the organic medicines that their ancestors received from spending time in nature...

The Color Red אדם in Understanding Biblical Color Therapy צבע טיפול בשמנים

Adom אדם  in Hebrew is the word for the color Red The letter read  are from Right to left Alef Dalet Men אדם Each letter represents Adom א, Daveed ד (King), Mashiach מ. These three have Wisdom and Understanding. Red is associated with the Tribe of Judah which is the tribe that the King of Israel was chosen from. It is also the tribe which Mashiach (Messiah) will come from. Judah is considered the wisest and most understanding of the 12 tribes of Israel. Red is considered one of the most important anointing colors. But too much of the color Red -Adom can become Edom, Edom is the name of the nation that sprang from Esau, the son of Isaac and Rebekah, and the brother of Jacob (Genesis 25:30). Edom bordered Israel on the south and was a kingdom long before Israel (Genesis 36:31). Edom and Israel skirmished throughout their existence. King Saul battled them (1 Samuel 14:47) but David conquered them (2 Samuel 8:14) and Edom remained under Israel’s control until the reign of Jehoram (2 Kings 8:20). The ethnonym, Edomite, occurs only sporadically in the Bible (Deuteronomy 23:8, 1 Samuel 21:8, 1 Kings 11:14), and is spelled without the signature letter vav. That means that Edomite is spelled the same as Adamite (one of Adam).   The root (shoreshim) of  RED  דמם  דום  דמה  דמן  אדם  דם Perhaps by coincidence and perhaps not, this root-cluster contains roots that all seem to have to do with stillness or productivity, with a clear nod to the color red. Red is the color of dawn and is also the first color a human...
The King is in the Field. Come take a stroll with him in the Garden?

The King is in the Field. Come take a stroll with him in the Garden?

Happy Chodesh Elul! The King is in the Field. Come take a stroll with him in the Garden? The month of Elul, last month of the Hebrew calendar year, is an auspicious time for repentance, prayer and introspection. These are special days of Divine good will and mercy, and the very essence of these days bespeak the basic human need for closeness with the Holy One, blessed be He… and His immediate and unequivocal response. The word Elul in Hebrew is actually an acronym, an abbreviation of the Hebrew words Ani l’dodi v’dodi li, “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” (Song of Songs 6:3). This verse from the Song of Songs is actually the theme of this very special month: realizing how beloved we are to G-d, and how precious our relationship with Him is. Elul reminds us that G-d constantly beckons us to return to Him. During this month, we seek to improve our relationship with G-d and with each other. Before A king enters a city, it’s inhabitants go out to greet him and receive him in the field. At that time, anyone who desires may approach and greet him. He …receives them all pleasantly and shows a smiling countenance to all. As he proceeds to the city, they follow him. Afterwards, when he reaches his royal palace, one may see the king only with permission, and this is only granted only to the nation’s elite who are a select few. (From the Maamer Ani Lidodi V’dodi Li of the Alter Rebbe) The month of Elul is a joyous time where Hashem has made...
Shine on!

Shine on!

“Hear the word that the L-rd speaks to you, O house of Israel. Thus says the L-rd:” Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them” Jer 10:1-2 On August 21st this year is a Total Eclipse across the US. Interesting to note is that the date corresponds with the Jewish Calendar Rosh Chodesh (New Month) 29th of Hebrew month Av. This is the day in Jewish history that Klal Yisroel ( Jewish Nation) received the 2nd set of the the Ten Commandments . The interesting aspect of this solar eclipse is that it is crossing the United Sates passing over ten States each having their own falt plates. If you aligned with G-d’s will do not worry about such signs in the heavens! Inspired by The Thirteen Attributes of Mercy or Shelosh-‘Esreh Middot HaRakhamim (transliterated from the Hebrew: as enumerated in the Book of Exodus (Exodus 34:67) are the Divine Attributes with which, according to our Jewish Sages, G-d governs the world. No matter how Dark the world seems G-d is always in control and governs in Light and Truth! Thirteen Attribute of G-d are as follows: Adonai: compassion before a person sins;- Oil: Etrog Adonai: compassion after a person has sinned; Oil: Jaffa Orange El: mighty in compassion to give all creatures according to their need;- Oil: Grapefruit white Rachum: merciful, that humankind may not be distressed;- Oil: Pink Grapefruit VeChanun: and gracious if humankind is already in distress; -Oil: Clementine Erech appayim: slow to anger;- Oil: Bergamot VeRav chesed: and plenteous in kindness;...

Essential Oils Benefits List

Essential Oils Benefits List

One of the core distinctions between herbal medicine and aromatherapy is that one won’t hear the question “what brand of plants do you use?”  This allows for a completely different relationship to plants and the organic materials one uses for healing. It is all about the plant material not the brand. We need to teach or share an essential oil in a brand-less bottle or smell strip. Because I believe there is a need to develop a deeper relationship with the individual essential oil we are smelling and experiencing than merely with the identification or biases that come with brand identification. Because an essential oil is not a brand, it is hopefully a plant derived aromatic medicinal substance. Shavuot and Dairy

Work before eating, rest after eating. Eat not ravenously, filling the mouth gulp after gulp without breathing space.” Maimonidies (1135-1204)   Shavuot Dairy or Not? Published May 17, 2010 Chana Rubin RD A nutritious diet and plenty of exercise while you’re young is the foundation for strong, dense bones. Osteoporosis – porous bones, is the weakening of bones that occurs as we age. Calcium is essential for building and maintaining strong bones, and dairy products are an excellent source of calcium. But if dairy isn’t for you, there are plenty of other things you can do for your bones. Like exercise. I’m not into jogging, cycling or exercise machines. But I do Tai Chi and stretching/aerobics classes several times a week. I also walk a lot. Despite severe lactose intolerance and very petite bones, my bone density has actually improved with age. I’m convinced that due to exercise. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones. It’s hard to get enough from diet alone, and since we’re all wearing sunscreen, (or should be!) most of us don’t get enough from being in the sun. That leaves supplements. Ask your physician if he or she thinks you should be taking one. Don’t forget about non-dairy sources of calcium, like canned salmon, tofu made with calcium, almonds, legumes, dark leafy green vegetables and techinah made with whole sesame seeds. Some foods and beverages are fortified with calcium, like orange juice (in the US) and soy, rice and almond drinks. How To Make Herbal Glycerites a Alternative Tincture Without Alcohol.

Glycerites are sweet herbal tinctures which use vegetable glycerin to extract the medicinal constituents and flavor from herbs. Herbal tinctures are typically made from alcohol, but glycerin is a good alternative for children, animals, and adults when palatability and alcohol sensitivities are primary considerations. While not as potent as alcohol-based tinctures, glycerites are still quite effective – certainly more so than trying to administer a dose of alcohol-based tincture to a tight-lipped child that hates the taste of alcohol.  Glycerites are effective no matter what reason you have for wanting to make tinctures without alcohol as the base. Vegetable glycerin is a clear, odorless liquid produced from vegetable oils such as palm, soy, or our favorite coconut oil, using high temperature and pressure to split the glycerin molecule from the fatty acids. While sweet, it is not metabolized by the body like sugar. For the highest quality glycerite, look for an organic, sustainably harvested, non-GMO glycerin. Fresh plants are ideal for glycerin tinctures because glycerin excels at preserving the fresh plant juices. However, glycerin is not as effective as alcohol at drawing constituents completely out of the cell structure of dried plants. Fresh is best! How to Make a Glycerite Glycerites can be made using fresh or dried plant material, as follows: Fill a clean jar with clean, chopped fresh plant material or half-full of ground dried plant material (dried material will expand as it absorbs liquid). For successful preservation, a glycerine tincture should contain at least 55% glycerin (Cech, 2000). For fresh plants, add enough glycerin to fully cover the plant material and fill jar to within one inch of the top. For dried...

Lag B’Omer

Lag B’Omer Holiday Ramblings Lag Ba’Omer is a minor Jewish holiday that falls between the holidays of Passover and Shavuot. “Lag” is a combination of two Hebrew letters: lamed and gimmel. According to Hebrew numerology, lamed stands for the number thirty and gimmel stands for the number three. These two numbers are significant for Lag Ba’Omer because it is celebrated on the 33rd day of Counting the Omer. Observing Lag B’Omer Lag Ba’Omer is a time during the Counting of the Omer when people can celebrate. While the Omer is a time of mourning, on Lag Ba’Omer marriages can be performed, children are taken to parks to play, and people often gather for large bonfires. The fires represent the light of the Torah. And the bows and arrows that children play with on this day represent the promise given to Noah but also represents the message of being on Target by observing what Hashem has given us in the Torah. Sages tell us that when we share the light of Torah with the Nations we are elevating the world in the light of Torah Hashem’s holiness becomes the fabric of reality and truth. Thus change can be made in love to heal this world and all people. Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the author of the Zohar (an important Kabbalistic text), also died on the 33rd day of the Omer. In Israel many people commemorate his death by visiting his grave in the northern town of Meron. The anniversary of his death is a day for celebration because it is believed he revealed the secret Light of the Torah to his...

Carrier oils, Waxes, and Butters Ratings of Comedogenic.

The term “comedogenic” is almost always paired with the term “noncomedogenic.” This pair of words is used to discuss the degree to which a substance may block the pores. Blocked pores can result in an increase of acne in certain people, and for this reason, people may look for ingredients in skin treatments that are noncomedogenic and less likely to occlude the pores. Those who don’t have acne can usually safely pick products that may occasionally block the pores. There are a large number of ingredients that may block the pores to at least some degree. We find the higher the quality of the product the less likely it clogs the pores and gives a clean finish that absorbs quickly. Quality make the difference. A comprehensive list might be hard to obtain from brand to brand, but some ingredients that have the tendency to be severely comedogenic include oil of wheat germ, algae extracts, mineral oil, soybean oil, and non organic lanolins to name a few. This list is provided so our customers are better informed what to buy for their needs and for for skin care etc. This list is by no means is complete. There is no such thing as “Theraputic Grade”!

There is no such system for essential oils. There is no standards or committees to set such standards. There are no independent certifying agencies. You will see some companies have actually trademarked their terms, “therapeutic grade” or “medicinal grade”. This is marketing ploy on their part, a way of differentiating themselves from the competition and making people feel like the oils they are getting are of the highest quality while others meet lower standards. This is simply not true and fact is there are great companies out there that have high quality and higher than these companies claim  they have the best because they are so called “therapeutic grade”. But again there are no such standards. There are no grades for essential oils. While our oils are used by us and majority of customers  for therapies, medicines, and for aromatherapy, we do not call them “therapeutic grade”, or “medicinal grade”, or “aromatherapy grade”  or any other grade because there is no such thing, except in marketing. Fact is all from a  Certified Clinical Aroma-therapist standpoint all good high quality essential oils are therapeutic and beneficial. We are committed to a straightforward, honest approach to selling our products, and stay away from such gimmicks. Answers for Questions about the Oil Press, Asher, Gethsemane, and Chanukah.

I receive a lot of questions specifically from Christians about the meaning of Gethsemane? And from many people asking why did it take so long to get the oil for the Temple Menorah in the Chanukah story? Was the oil acquired from Asher’s potion of  land? So I will try to answer these two questions and a few others here. Gethsemane; Hebrew: גת שמנים literally means Oil Press Geth=Press Shemenim-Oil This is not a Garden like most would assume. Without reading the texts itself I assume it is a mistranslation from Aramaic Hebrew into Greek. it might be the word Grove translated to Garden, but the Hebrew word for oil press is not a garden.  The cave where olive oil was pressed in the late summer early fall months in Jerusalem is where the Olive Oil Press (Geth Shemenim) was kept. This is most likely where the olive oil for the Temple Menorah was pressed without having to wait for the oil arrive miles away. This would be located on the Mount of Olives where groves of Olive Trees would grow and next to it would be a Geth Shemenim (Olive Press) that is located in a cave. Some Scholars say that the Mt of Olives were under the control of the Tribe of Asher who made the olive oil for the Temple Menorah so would not have to travel so far to the Galilee Gush Halav which was Asher’s portion.  During the Roman rule the Temple Priest that were appointed by Rome controlled the Mt of Olives Oil Press. And would often use the space to house many Priests of the Temple, and Rabbis Scholars. This was only in the Spring and...
Passover and Hashem’s Divine Light

Passover and Hashem’s Divine Light

There’s really only one difference between Matzah and Chametz. They’re both made from flour and water, both baked in an oven, and both provide nourishment. But one stays flat and humble, while the other fills itself with hot air. The Hebrew of these two words reveals this fact. Matza מצה = “unleavened bread”. Chametz חמץ = “leaven”, or “fermented dough”. By the way, chometz / חומץ = vinegar, and chamutz / חמוץ = sour.   The letter Chet ח there is no escape past the first letter of Chumetz The Letter Hey ה  there is escape in the word Matza That’s why matzah is a key ingredient for leaving your own personal Egypt to rid ourselves of our personal Pharo: As long as we are full of ourselves with delusions of self-importance, there’s no way to break out and grow to a new level. There is no way one can relate to others and have healthy relationships if we are all puffed up. Once we make ourselves small, we can fit through any bars of our personal  prison cell and we can fly past any cloud that may get in our way. Chametz (leaven) dough that has risen symbolizes inflated ego and arrogance, while Matzah that keeps a low profile, represents humility and suspension of the self, becoming a conduit for a higher flow of Divine light. Essential Oils helps to overcome anxiety, depression, feeling out of control of our lives, pain, loss (berevement), confusion, insomnia/sleeping too much, disease, etc which is the Chumetz we want to remove. Essential oil also help us regain calmness, clarity and focus back into our lives which is Matza that...
